"Partition Voices"
Tunku Vardarajan’s Review of Partition Voices by Kavita Puri, a British Journalist, is a great reminder of the pitfalls of loss of agency in narratives. The Partition was a monumental horror that nobody expected and none deserved. One would have hoped that Mr. Vardarajan would provide a somewhat native perspective. But the fact that he chose W.H. Auden, a non-native poet, to bespeak the tragedy in his commentary exemplifies my point on agency.
The Partition is not a singular event on the calendar. It is a source of transgenerational trauma for millions.
